ANORTHOSIS FAMAGUSTA SECOND GIANT SIGNING

Nolberto Nobby or Ñol Albino Solano Todco (born December 12, 1974 in Callao) is a Peruvian football player who is the second “big” signing of Anorthosis Famagusta. His talents in football range from accurate crosses to accomplished dead-ball skills and he has traditionally played either on the right wing or as a right back during his career. He is the first choice player to take corner and direct free kicks. Solano is the first Peruvian to play in the Premier League. Solano signed a one-year contract with West Ham United in August 2007.He made his debut for West Ham in October 2007, coming on as a second half substitute in the 3–1 home defeat of Sunderland, and was instrumental in West Ham's second goal, his shot being deflected into the Sunderland goal by goalkeeper, Craig Gordon. His first goal for West Ham was a free-kick and the fifth goal in West Ham’s 5-0 away wins against Derby County on 10 November 2007. He was still a favorite with the Geordie following who chanted his name at the Boleyn Ground when Newcastle United were playing West Ham on 25 April 2008. They also cheered when he made a 30 second appearance for the Hammers. In the last game of the season on 11 May 2008 Solano scored his second free-kick goal, against Aston Villa, the match ended 2-2. He was released by West Ham at the end of the 2007–08 season having scored 4 goals in 23 appearances.

Cypriot champions Anorthosis sealed a meeting with SK Rapid Wien after a goal in each half saw off their Armenian hosts. The visitors started strongly with Pyunik goalkeeper Grigor Meliksetyan having to save from Klimenti Tsitaishvili in the first minute. However, the home custodian was helpless when the same opponent followed up a Lukasz Sosin lob which came back off the crossbar to open the scoring on the half-hour mark. Pyunik fought back after the break with Vardan Petrosyan spurning three great opportunities to equalise but with four minutes remaining, Nikos Frousos sealed the victory after rounding Meliksetyan.
Another gold success for the Cyprus sailing team. Pavlos Kontides after the 11th race qualified as the Youth’s World Champions winner for the second year in the line. Kontides was competing at LASER and has collected so many points that there was no change to loose the title. The 16 years old young sailor Michalis Mallekides has qualified for the gold on RS:X after the 11th race. In a country like Cyprus which is dominated from the football, our young talents they deserve our deepest appreciation.
