With 1 draw and 1 defeat in their early starting Cyprus is going to chase up some earning points tonight against Ireland. Even the Cypriots didn’t make a bright start, the spectacle they have offered spread, some enthusiasm to the local population, which is watching the football in the island to take finaly the next step further. Everybody knows that it would be a tough job as Cyprus Considered minnows for many years. Cyprus still has yet to qualify for the finals of a FIFA World Cup. In the qualifying competition for the 2002 event, they only finished above tiny Andorra, whom they beat twice, and points from two draws against Estonia were hardly enough to see them through to the finals.
Nevertheless, the team from the third largest island in the Mediterranean has been drawing attention for all the right reasons. First, in qualifying for UEFA EURO 2000, they beat the mighty Spain 3-2. The defeat signaled the end of Javier Clemente's time as Spanish coach and made the world do a double-take.

Quincy Taylor erupted for 24 points to help Limassol club Proteas EKA AEL finish level at 65-65 in the first leg of their EuroChallenge Qualifying Round 1 clash at BC Donetsk on Tuesday.The Ukrainian team went on top 52-48 late in the third quarter and was still in front at 54-49 at the start of the fourth but wasn't able to press home the advantage as the visitors from Cyprus battled back. |

Anorthosis Famagusta FC, the team that is becoming from the “ghost town” has haunted Panathinaikos Athens FC by trailing them at GSP stadium by 3 goals to 1. After embarrassing Olympiacos CFP loss, it was the turn of Panathinaikos to be swapped from Anorthosis. The Cypriot titleholders celebrated the nation's Independence Day by rewarding the almost 19.200 fans with an unbelievable win which have cheered up the entire nation.
