This is our World Cup PDF Print E-mail
This Sunday sees the start of an important week for Cyprus rugby.

At a recent press conference Mr. Costas Mastoroudes, President of the Cyprus Rugby Federation (CRF), said that, “the Cyprus national Rugby team is taking part in its own World Cup'' when he announced the teams taking part in the European Rugby Federation (FIRA AER) league 3D play-offs. The winner would then take part in a play off against the bottom team of division 3C, with the eventual victor playing in the stronger division as from 2008

''This is a wonderful challenge for us'' said Mr. Mastoroudes. '' not only has FIRA AER shown their confidence in us to organize such a prestigious competition so soon after joining the European Family of Rugby in December 2006, but it also allows us to show rugby games at an International level to the people of Cyprus. This will most definitely help our development''

The opening match, between Cyprus and Azerbaijan will be Sunday at 2pm at the Paphiako Stadium, Paphos.

28.10.07 Sunday - Paphiako Stadium, Paphos Cyprus v Azerbaijan 14.00

The coach of the National Side Mr. Niall Doherty, a straight talking Irishman from Leinster, then announced the squad of players chosen to play in the tournament. The group of 30 players includes 10 new players who will travel from other countries to play.
'' Most of the boys coming from abroad '' said Mr. Doherty, ''have found their own sponsors or paid for their own tickets and expenses to come to Cyprus to represent their country. I applaud their determination and their desire, and this is exactly the attitude of the whole of the squad''

Tickets for all matches can be bought at the grounds at £4 per adult. Children under 12 will be allowed free entry as long as they are accompanied by an adult.

12th Round Fixtures PDF Print E-mail

8/12

ENP v AEL  17:00

This would be one of the most interesting matches of the round as Paralimni is at the 3rd position of the league with a series of wins while AEL is suffering to find its good performance.

APOP/ Kinyras v Doxa 17:00

What a challenge for both of the clubs! Peyia wants to win this game and stay at the top 6 clubs at the league, in a match which is more difficult from what it looks it would be. Both teams want the win for different reasons, while Doxa can be a dangerous opponent.

Apollon v Aris 17:00

We have two questions here... would  Aris be able to get the benefit from Apollon? or could Apollon find its performance and get the win?

APOEL v Omonoia 19:00

After the cracking performance of the ref at the Cup Derby among APOEL and Anorthosis the question isn't who would win the match...

Sunday 9/12

Olymbiakos v Ethnikos Achna 14:30

Ethnikos has an advantage here, while all the possibilities are open. Olymbiakos wants the 3 points as is at the relegation zone.

AEK v Alki 17:00

Alki can damage AEK which is suffering this season.

N. Salamina v Anorthosis 18:00

A Famagusta local derby from 2 refugee's clubs. Would really Anorthosis willing to help a little bit Salamina? We will see...

What a league!! PDF Print E-mail
This season Cyprus Premier league is one of the most interesting of the recent years as all the games are un predictable. The newly promoted clubs, which were the number one nominees for the relegation zone, have done an excellent job, showing that would not be so easy. All the four title contenders drop points at this round from not such big teams like Aris, APOP/Kinyras, and Doxa Katokopias. Ethnikos Achnas and Paralimni they make it to get the wins, against Apollon and Omonoia. Omonoia sunked to a lot of sceptics as that was their fourth continuously bad appearance at the grounds. Omonoia sunked in to a lot of sceptics as that was their fourth continuously bad appearance at the grounds with their fan club to demand immediate action from the administration of the club.
